A Gondola Ride in Venice

Since it was a four-day trip but our Vaporetto card was only valid for 72 hours, we decided to really make the most of our last full day in Venice making unlimited use of the waterbuses. The day started with a lovely 30-minute gondola ride through the historic Grand Canal near Santa Maria del Giglio. There is still so many speculation whether the gondola rides are actually worth the hype or just a big money scam, but I honestly think you can’t go to Venice and not go on a gondola ride. You just can’t! But then again, we didn’t spend €80 for a private gondola (try €29!). Our gondola held up six people at the time and it really didn’t make me enjoy the ride less. On the contrary, it was one of the most relaxing rides ever. So consider booking a non-private tour for the same experience, but much cheaper! Our gondolier even sung out a few notes once in a while, even though that was not included!

LAST BITS OF EXPLORING

After the gondola ride, we decided to grab a bite near the Gondola park because sitting in the sun for an half hour straight definitely works up an appetite! After a few club sandwiches, french fries and chicken nuggets, we were ready to do some more strolling around the area. I think the best way to experience Venice is to ditch the map and just be your own guide. Getting lost in the alleys surrounding all the antique and colorful buildings is really half the fun! We also decided to cross the Ponte del Accademia bridge which oversees both sides of the canal and serves as a picture perfect moment. A few moments later we stumbled upon the cutest pink and grey building and I just had to stop to admire it. And as if we weren’t acting like complete tourists the entire trip, we ended our last full day with a ‘basic’ but necessary gelato-in-front-of-bridge snapshot!

  1. Venice is somewhere I’d love to visit, it’s on my bucket list too! I’m always mesmerised by photos, it seems like a dream! That’s an interesting point about the gondolas, I honestly wouldn’t mind it not being private. And you can never have too many ‘basic’ gelato shots! Hope you had a fab holiday!

It really does seem like a dream! Every alley is interesting and every building is building! I can’t wait to go back in a couple of years.
